Junior doctors industrial action (24-28 February 2024)

British Medical Association (BMA) junior doctors are scheduled to take industrial action from 7am Saturday 24th to 11:59pm Wednesday 28th February 2024.

As a result, we are expecting that a number of junior doctors who work at Liverpool Women’s NHS Foundation Trust will be on strike during this time.

To maintain patient safety, some of our services may be disrupted so that our clinical teams can prioritise our most urgent patients and care.

If your scheduled appointment is impacted by the upcoming industrial action, we will be in touch with you as soon as possible to let you know and to provide you with a re-arranged date. We appreciate for anyone currently waiting for an appointment that any changes will be extremely frustrating, and we apologise in advance for the inconvenience this causes to anyone who is affected.

We will be contacting any patients whose appointments may be affected. If you are not contacted, please attend the hospital as normal.

Fertility

The Trust boasts one of the world’s leading reproductive medicine units: The Hewitt Fertility Centre.

The centre gives people their very best chance of a successful pregnancy. The Trust has substantially invested in the very latest technologies to get success rates of the centre to the point where they are actually as good as the very best in the world, and certainly the best in the North West. When you consider that it is also the largest reproductive medicine facility in the country, performing an average of over 3,000 treatment cycles a year, that is quite an achievement!

The centre now has clinics both in Liverpool and Knutsford, which means that people can access its expert services more easily. The location of the centre in Knutsford also means that patients do not need to tackle the traffic/parking issues that they would face if they were travelling to a centre in central Manchester.

The centre operates differently to most (if not all) IVF providers in the UK. All patients (both NHS and private) are entitled to the latest in time-lapse technology (EmbryoScope™) as a standard part of their treatment. Most in the industry are agreed that time-lapse technology has been the biggest breakthrough in fertility treatment in a decade. The Hewitt Fertility Centre has the largest number of EmbryoScope™ machines in Europe, allowing the team to offer it to all patients at no extra cost and without the possibility of having to delay treatment.

People who are entitled to fertility treatment through the NHS can simply ask their GP to refer them to our services. If you wish to fund your treatment yourself, you can of course contact us directly via telephone (0151 702 4121 for Liverpool, 01565 653287 for Knutsford). If you are unsure whether you qualify for NHS funding or not you can give our funding officer a call on 0151 702 4464/4481. If you have got any questions at all about fertility or IVF, call on the numbers above.
